Howling
Simply that
Slowing down say, from 25 km/h to 0. Brake at any level, there is a higher pitched howling sound, that is fairly audible right to 0. It sounds like it is coming from the left front, it ONLY does it with brakes applied if im doing straight. It will do it making a slower right turn as well. Brakes are like new front and back, CVs look great, car doesn't pull in any direction, driveability has not decreased at all. |
My bet is that if your braking isn't affected, it's a hub bearing. Now you have to find out for certain which side it is. Or jack each side up and wiggle the wheels to see which one has the most slop. Your other option is the differential.

If its my diff... ill cry.
its more like a braking howl, and its loud from the drivers side. |
defintly a hub the cvpi needed a replacement a while back and i had the same symtoms
|
Check under the hood to see if you've inadvertently t-boned a coyote.
Damned annoying things are all over here. :D |
I'd agree on the wheel bearing.
You have two choices. You can like the airplane sound and keep it. (eventually it'll fail) or you can swap'er out. (Maybe you and Pat can get a multibearing discount...) |
I get them babies for next to nothing at work ;)
I'm not to concearned about it really, they arent that bad to change either, if it doesn indeed need a hub. |
i had the same problem and just replaced both at the same time.... do not wait until it gets bad, my friend did wait until it got bad and the wheel bearing failed on the highway.... i replace atleast the bad one....
|
One of the techs at work is gunna come for a boot in it today at lunch...
It was making that sound, only softer when i was stopped this morning...I though..ABS pump maybe, so i disabled it..and nope, still made the sound. Its interment though, cause now, its quiet as can be... |
It might be more obvious in the cold.
