How to synchronize keyless remote on 98 Bonneville

Well, my wife lost her keys. So, that meant I had to go get extra's made. Also, the keyless remote fob was a goner. I checked with the dealer, they wanted $70 for one, CRAZY!! Then, they wanted me to pay them to re-synchronize them to the car. Anyway after some research I found them on EBAY for dirt cheap. I bought 2 off EBAY for $9.49. Make sure the UTA code matches your old remote.

I was told to check here for information on how to synchronize the remotes to my car. I found a thread that one of the Bonneville Club Admins posted (Teuobk). BTW, thanks for the info! He gave info for 95 Bonnevilles. Here's the link:

Anyway, it was different from the way I had to do my '98, but I stumbled on how to do it by following Teuobk's instructions. So, here is what I found to be the CORRECT way to synchronize the remotes for a 98 Bonneville:

1.) Have ignition off

2.) Insert wire between pin 4 and 8 of the diagnostic port (see picture in Teuobk's thread linked above)

3.) Turn ignition on, you will hear locks cycle.

4.) Press the lock and unlock button simutaneously for aprox. 20 seconds. Locks will make sound, release buttons.

5.) Repeat step 4 for every remote you have. The manual says it will do up to 4 remotes.

6.) Pull shorting wire out, turn ignition off.

7.) Voila, they should all work now.

Good luck!

Took a quick look at your site. Nice site. Nice car. See many 82-86 Bonnevilles?

I haven't had anybody send me a picture of their 82-88 Bonneville, but I have received a few pictures of LeMans' and a lot of Gran Prix's

BTW, glad I found this site!

Thanks,
