last night i had this weird noise that started it sounds like a rod knock but wasnt consistent so i parked the car and looked at it this morning my mechanic came over and he thought the same it was werid also but he told me to take it to the shop and we racked it up there well none the less the TC bolts had came loose so we tighten them up and the sound is gone thank god because funds are running low

Yeah, you really lucked out on that one. I know the sound. Happened to me on a 1949 plymouth. The pressure plate bolts were loose on the flywheel and it sounded just like a rod or main bearing knock. Man, some stuff never changes. lol

TC is Torque Converter? Glad you got it resolved. Bill Buttermore, the 49 Plymouth was a tank.

This may sound like a dumb question....I hope it isn't.

Do you hear it when it is in park and your car is idling there? And can hear it the loudest when you are standing next to the drivers door and put your head sorta down by the front tire?

I've seen people fooled by the harmonic balancer/dampener, too. Sounds like rod knock at first, then it gets worse and you think the whole motor is coming apart. Kinda like what you'd imagine a broken balance shaft sounding like.
