Default L36 stock performance questions

My experiance so far with the SII NA engine have not been satisfactory. Im hoping some other NA owners can help me out here.

Unless I come to a complete stop so the tranny starts back in first this new car of mine is absolutely gutless. I need to nearly floor it to get things rolling again. Same kind of lack of responce when climbing hills too. Just a little pedal is not enough to get anything out of. It seems I need to push down 2-3" on pedal to get any responce.

Is this how these cars are because of the weight and the gearing or what ?

Yes it goes like hell when I floor it and let her rip but its the normal driving Im having problems with.

Now for you techs - The dealership initally said the tranny was slipping and rebuilt the whole tranny including reman torque converter. The same problem that I had is still there. Im almost wondering is its not the torque management in the OBD II gone astray. It seems like the injectors just dont respond to the added pedal. There is no check engine light. Its going back in again but Id like to get a few ideas myself, it seems they just arent getting it. I never noticed it slipping before and the tach didnt and still doesnt show the engine reving, the tach is consistent with road speed for gear.

Good news is they did finally change the positive battery cables but not until I fought long enough to equal the time involved with changing them AND yes the cable ends were as green as could be.

Also somewhere in the rebuild process they did get the shifter lever that had "normal wear" tightened up to where it now does just have normal wear

Please talk to me Im listening

PS - I love my H bodys but I dearly miss my L27 Regal

about what speed do you notice this gutlessness? or is it a certain speed? because if its around 47mph thats the torque converter locking in and yeah youll have to give it some gas to get it to unlock(or possibly the other way around) but i notice that too

for example your giving it a fair bit of gas and your turning lets say 3500 rpms, then you get above 47 and ease off and it almost feels like a downshift and then drops down to around 2000 or so?

i dunno if this helps or not but thats what mine is like and im series 2 as well

Now I have a new upper intake and still this problem exists - see the other H body forum for a somewhat more descriptive explaination as well as a pulling to the right problem.

They have put alot of parts and time and money into this car and that is not what I want. I simply want the few what I thought minor problems I originally took it back for fixed.

Is the L36 lathargic by nature unless completely wipped or is there something wrong with this car ?

You're not adjusting a downshift cable lol....

For the problem, you sound like you're just not happy with the power curve. The L27 has more down low, and feels' more muscular then the L36, which has more higher up.

When was your last tuneup? You may need some stuff, new plugs wires, o2, etc. Maybe a bad MAF? dirty TB? Tranny doesn't sound like a problem any more.

I understand what everyone is saying here but it also has a responce problem. Like Im towing a heavy truck and it just doesnt have enough power to pull, period. When more pedal is added its like I didnt even move the pedal. Not until I put it down that it will downshift clear to 1st and pull. Then it does add power or fuel or whatever is being controled in notches. Much like a three speed electic fan for example.

BonneMeMN , I understand what you are saying about the power band. It is also geared higher than my Regal as well as heavier but when you round a corner and add pedal to accelerate it doesnt, nor does it sound like its trying, so it cant just be weight, powerband and gearing, I dont think :?:

It actually reminds me of how the injectors are backed off by the torque managment durring a shift when you feel the engine fall on its face untill the shift is complete, or doesnt the L36/65E have this ?

I dont think they are getting codes, it is a GM dealer I bought this from, I would think they went through everything.

I dont think down there in the city where they are they can even get it to do this. I didnt notice it when I test drove it. Not until I got part way home and into the country roads. In just calm city, stop and go driving it wont do it. You need to come to say a right or left turn where you dont need to stop and then accelerate on your way that it will do it. Its like driving the old VW diesel (62HP or was it 48 HP ?) again and forgetting to downshift

Is FQ3 my axle ratio ? If so what is it ? I dont have books for G2 H.

So the E trannys dont have the TV cable ?
