How to realease fuel pressure from lines to change fuel filter?
 

Every time I search i get a ton of threads about fuel pumps so i was wondering what to do to realease the pressure so i can change my filter. Thanks.

BTW, 1994 non supercharged 3.8

Couple things, first you can pull the fuel pump fuse and start the car and let it run till it dies, OR there is a little valve like a valve stem on a tire in the fuel rail, you can depress that, but that is messy. i would just disable the fuel pump.

someone else may have another way for you to do it as well.

I'll do the fuse. Is the fuse located under the hood somewhere? Thanks.

None of the fuses in the fuse box go to the fuel pump. Is it an underhood fure or relay?

If I don't release the pressure from the lines will gas just spew out for a few seconds? If so i can probaly wear face protection and clean it up. I just can't find a way to depressurize the fuel lines.

Out of curiousity, what happened to these boards? When they changed over did they lose all the info threads to help people out? When i do seaches i can't find anything anymore. :(

The fuse or relay, can't remember which one, should be in the faxifuse panel under the hood. If you don't want to go that way just put a rag over the valve and press it in. Were a face shield.

As for the missing threads. When the system was changed over things were damaged. We are slowly repairing the data base. If you let us know which ones you need we can get it fixed up. But there are so many we just can't find them all unless they are pointed out. We do have several new articles in the how to area. Thsi section will get bigger over time.

I looked for the release valve and couldn't find it either. Is it on the fuel line somewhere?

I was looking for threads about this subject and another subject about the way my car is acting up (possible electrical, fuel pump going out stc) but I understand with the new boards things will come around. This is a good community and I'm sure it will take no time to get some great info going once again. Thanks for your efforts.

I wish I knew more about your year, but it's outside my area. 1993 SLE knows far more then I do. When I did my wifes fuel filter on the van I just wrapped a rag around the line and disconnected it at the tank. It dripped a little but not to bad. Just make sure your not under it when you do it. It's not going to spray all over.
