Default need help gurus, is this a bad cv shaft 98 Bonnie, Thanks !

ok I have a bumping in my steering wheel like up and down not a shimmey. I had new tires put on it and it is still there. I took it back and they put another new set on it all rebalanced still there. ( 55 to 65 mph) they then said they would swap out the Dunlops for Michlens and they did theat. # sets of brand new tires nd its still thumping. The car has 207k and I have never chg the shafts the boots are in fine condition to. The tech at the tire store said " its got to be a drivline problem " I think I already knew thta. Any clues ? If it is the cv'* should I try changing one side first then the other if that doesn't work ? What needs to be removed to pull the shaft ? Tie rod,ball joint etc ? Thanks guys im hoping someone has a GOOD idea

Can you explain more of this "bumping" you are having? Looseness/bumpyness in suspension can be many things. If the ball joints have never been replaced I would inspect those. And with those miles other things could be failing too.

cvc,

Get under that bonnie and visually check for oil/grease leaks at or near the cv boots. Loook for torn or ripped boots. Get yourself a pry bar and put some weight on those baljoints and tie rods or anti-sway. You are looking had your Bonnie alignment check in the past year? that could be something there to check out. Also your struts could be going bad or getting tired. If you need to replace the Cv go for the both of them at once might as well. Just some ideas and thoughts hope it helps a little.

ok the bumping. it seems at 60 to 68 mph like you are briving over a rumble strip but not that pronounced. It is a slight up constant at that speed bumping. The cv'* look good no rips leaks or whatever. Balljoints should NOT make that happen but they are tight as are the tie rods. The only thing I can see doing that is a cv shaft either worn and chucking up and down or a bad tire or rim which I have eliminated already.. What process needs to be done to change out a cv ? Do you need to remove tie rod or ball joint ? I know rotor and caliper but what else ?

ok i admit im reaching here but...My other post with the steering wheel vibration at 60 mph plus made me start thinking. i never had the problem befor i changed my ignition starter switch in which I had to take the steering collum strap off under the gages and drop the collum. I then chgd the switch and put the bolts in the collum strap and after that I noticed the vibration. NOW.. when it starts to vibrate in the wheel if you pull pressure on the wheel at say the 6 oclock mark and pull up you can stop the vibration. It seems as if the collum is loose when you hit a bump it shakes more than it should. Now my question is there must be a point other than the strap under the gages that holds the collum firm and maybe when I dropped the collum I loosened the other mount. Or broke a bushing or ??? so where else does the collum mount to hold it in place other than under the gages ??
