how hard is it to replace the driv belt on a 95 bonneville?
 

how hard is it to replace a drive belt on a 95 bonneville? do you have to jack the motor up alittle bit? any tips or tricks?

I've never done it, I really should but haven't. But from what I'm told you have to pull the bolt out of the passenger side motor mount and jack the engine up a lil bit to remove the belt. Sounds like a PITA to me.

Lakeville, you don't have to worry. You don't have the Series 2. Both of your belts come off in about 30 seconds.

A series 2 is a little more involved.

It'll take you a 1/2 hour....realistically. I just did mine when I bought my 95 SSEi

Get out the owners manual and open to the page on belt routing....cause you'll never remember even though 20 seconds isn't a long time. Put something on manual to hold open page. Pull out a long handle ratchet or breaker bar with a 14 or 15mm socket (forget the exact size).

1. Using breaker/ratchet take the tension off the tensioning pulley for the front belt. Slip belt off all pulleys noting how it was routed.

2. Repeat step 1 for rear belt.

3. Route new rear belt and using ratchet/breaker on tensioner slip belt back under and gently apply tension to belt.

4. Repeat step 3, forgot how it went didn't you? Refer to owners manual already open to correct page. Repeat step 3 and realize front belt is harder because of where tensioner is located...keep your patience, you'll get it back on and tensioned.

It's really easy...the only thing was the front belt was tougher because the tensioner is lower and tougher to get to...unless someone's gone underneath to tension it?

Concur with Bill. It's also a lot easier if you have an assistant to hold the belt on the lower pulleys as you route it.

Took me about a half hour. BTW, Bill, my Gatorback belt package had a belt-routing diagram printed right on it. :?

Tell me you didn't smile about the manual and not being able to remember the front belt. 8)

Guys, the original author of this post has a 95, but it's a Series 2 if I recall. He has to cut loose a motor mount bracket to get his belt out, as all Series 2 motors do.

I successfully changed an accessory belt at Woodburn Dragstrip last year with driverjohn, 2000SilverBullet, and PontiacDad/Mom watching on a HOTTER THAN H E L L motor in just a couple minutes. Did it again 4 hours later in McDonald's parking lot. :lol:

Uh oh.. Will has a good point. Actually I didn't remember it saying SSEi or not. My bad...I assume everyone has SSEi.
