Default bearings or struts? HELP!

I've posted before about my wheel bearings needing replacement. I just talked to a different guy and told him the sound my wheels make when I turn the wheel (like a thumping noise) and he said it wasn't my bearings, though the mechanic who looked at it a month ago said I needed new bearings. This guy said bad bearings would make a different noise and that I actually needed new struts. Anyone know WTF this problem could be? I don't know who to believe. Both these guys work at the same shop. Which service would cost more? Changing bearings or struts? Could the first mechanic have been trying to get more money out of me? I know a few people have had this similar problem. Anyone think it could be the struts and not the bearings? Any help is needed! Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. I was hoping to fix this problem this weekend.

They also said I needed a new serpentine belt because mine had a lot of cracks in it. $85 parts and labor!
I know belts can have a lot of small cracks and be fine. I think they may just be trying to screw me out of my $$$

Default Wheel Bearings

When the wheel bearing went out on my Bonnie it just sounds like a low growl when you turned the car!

Could be a bent drive shaft or bad CV joints? I had a bent drive shaft in my VW once and gave the thumping sound because the CV joints were poping and I had a Honda Accord that just thumped because the inner CV joint was bad.

I don't know if you can compare a VW or a Honda to a Bonnie but Good Luck!

He said if the bearings were bad it would make a humming noise or something, not the thumping/bumping/popping noise. Is that the noise your bonnie made? Like a humming?

Anyone have a clue to what new struts would cost me if it'* the struts? Anyone have their struts replaced? Thanks for the help.

Hey, first thing, go up to NOTICE and read the post about pic sizes in sigs. New thing.

THEN go out and jack up your car. Get the offending wheel up in the air. Try to wiggle the wheel around. If you get any slop, you'll know it.

You will tell if your wheel bearing are bad by jacking the the car up but yes when my wheel bearings were bad they just hummed or growled. You will notice it more when you turn.

My guess is a CV joint or the ball joint.
