How can I tell if its Supercharged???

I got a 92' SSE.. Its a Dark Metallic Blue and the Rims are same color as the Body color... These seem to be rare.. All the other 92's I see have differnt Rims.. Does this indicate that it is Supercharged? Or will it say on engine? or what?? Please help lol I got a race set up with a SHO, and I need to know lol

You can tell if you have a boost gauge in your instrument cluster. Look under the hood and see if there's a pulley that goes onto the top of the engine with what seems like a long snout housing. There will also be a distinct supercharge whinding sound when you apply on the accelarator. I'm sure other people on this board can help too with more info.

Drifter420 was right - the easiest way to tell is by looking at the instrument cluster. Non-supercharged models have a voltmeter, and the supercharged models replace the voltmeter with a boost gauge. The SSE model can come with almost every option that comes on the SSEi so sometimes it can be tough to tell them apart.

As for the dark blue metallic color on the SSE/SSEi... you are right, they are rare! I have only seen two in all my travels and looking at used car ads for over 6 months. I have a 92 SSEi with those nasty blue wheels (soon to be replaced), and beige interior. There is one just like mine at a local wrecking yard - blue wheels and all - but it has gray interior so it's not very useful when it comes to parts. Other than these two, I've never seen another one. Seems the more popular colors on the SSE/SSEi models are black, white, red, and green... very few of us blue ones out there. I'd be interested to see how many of what color left the factory in 92 just to see how rare this color is. :)

From what I have researched on 92-99 models, the dark blue metallic (code 29U) was only offered in 92 and 93, and the body-colored alloy wheels were only available on the 92 model. In 93 you could get the same wheel design, but only in silver.

You should have no problems showing that SHO who's the boss! 8)

The easiest way to find out to me is too lift the hood! If it's got a supercharger sitting on top of that engine then it's supercharged! Now, if the engine has been replaced though, then go to the trunk, look at the RPO label on either the deck lid or spare tire cover. look for the "L" codes (all rpo's are 3 digits long). If it says "L27" then it's a NA 3800. If it says "L67" then it's SC 3800. Another way is to look at the VIN on the front winshield, the 8th digit from the left is the engine code. "L" for NA 3800 & "1" for SC 3800.

Late post...

I have a Supercharged Bonnie from the factory (Vin indicates "1") and although it has the blower, it has no boost guage. It is one of the rare Supercharged SE models that they made from '95 to '97. The SE trim earned it the SE dash cluster (there were three dashes available for the '95 year). I am considering puting in an A pillar guage pod with a boost guage.

I know this doesn't help answer your question, but it does dispell the myth that all SC Bonnies came with a Boost Guage.

racing SHO Bonneville Blue

I hope u won but I'll tell you this 1st. My aunt has a '99 GP 200hp GT no s/c and I raced and Sho and the take off on his car was so just .....damn, I felt salty. I thought never to race that car ever again. Come to find out he got 215hp under hood and a turbocharger I think. Well i have a blk SSE and with 205 i still daon't have a chance with 1. But whoever has the s/c model regardless SE,SSE, or SSEi you should beat it 92-newer except SLE never came equipped with s/c. Also everyone is right see on left side of motor that there is a silver s/c on side, boost gage instead of volts, and plain and simple it should say 3800 supercharged on top of motorand on front door panel.
