help please, narrowed down problem
 

hello, ive been on here many times about my car dieing and havent quite figured out what it exactly is but in the past couple days i have noticed something and everyone i talk to has no idea what would cause it,

when im going dow the road under 30 mph and i left off the gas, the rpm's will drop to 500 or less and then depending on the ocasion it will struggle to get back to a little over 1000 (where it idels) or it will struggle and then give up and shut off the car.

no back presure??

not sayin thats the problem but its a guess... how rusted out is your exhaust system?

also when was last time your car had a tune up?

um..... the outside of the exaust is got a lots of rust spots but little tine bumps everywhere but its not got it crumbling away with rust,,,,,,,,,, i havent got a tune up on it ever but i dont know about the other 4 owners before me i dont know, once i get the money im going to get one, i have been meaning to for a long tim

After you do:

1. PCV valve
2. Air Filter
3. Fuel Filter
4. Plugs
5. Plug wires
6. Check your coils per TECHINFO
7. Clean your TB and MAF sensor per TECHINFO
8. O2 sensor if you don't know how old it is or it's over 50k miles in age

Come back and tell us if you still have a problem. Diagnosing a problem like this on a car with an unkown tune-up state is shooting in the dark and pointless.

well have a cold air intake filter on there, been planning on getting new plugs wires, ive suspected o2 sensor, cause my friends van had same problem (which doesnt mean its what wrong wit mine, but im saving that for later cause its not cheap,) ill update later, ty

I had a van with similar problem that wound up being the fuel pressure regulator gasket (different engine, may not apply here). It ran fine at highway speeds, but slowing down for stops and turns it couldn't keep up with the fuel it was getting (dumping through the regulator) and would die unless I kept on the gas a bit. If this sounds similar, add checking the fuel pressure regulator to willwren's list of things to do/check.

We don't have FPR gaskets, and typically don't see FPR issues. It's pointless to continue throwing ideas out there until the car is fully tuned up.
