Two problems solved at once
Posted: 11/10/03 Post subject: radio turns off with ignition
Posted: 11/10/03 Post subject: Scanner not working
I removed the relay for the RAC (retained accessory power) and just reinstalled it and my interior lights came on, my keyless entry worked, my radio and windows still operate after I turn the key to off and best of all my vehicle starting responding to my scanner. Now I can work on my car'* stumbling problem. Found trouble code "P1361 Electronic Spark Timing signal not switching after enable". I think this is caused by a faulty ignition module. I'll take it out and have it tested at Auto Zone. Any one have any other suggestion?

I agree completely. Bench-testing ICM'* ANYWHERE is iffy at best. If they tell you it'* bad, it probably is, but if they tell you it'* good, it may not be. They don't have the capability of testing all parameters fully. They go through basic funtionality at the most.
I'd get a wrecker ICM and swap it in. It wouldn't be bad to have a spare anyway.

So this weekend I removed my ICM and took it to Autozone to have it tested. They ran the test about 20 times to get the unit really hot. It passed every time. They also tested the coils with an Ohm meter. They all looked good. I put everthing back together and test drove my car. Still had the same problems and the same code. Do I bite the bullet and buy a new ICM or is there something else I should look at first? Do the ICM'* good bad frequently?
Thanks in advance for any information or comments.

You should be able to get a new aftermarket unit on ebay for around $50-80, or for the same price you can go to one of your local salvage yards or www.car-part.com and get them for $20-30 apiece. I believe late 1992-1995 L27'*, 1995-2004 L36'*, and 1992-2004 L67'* and maybe the 2004/2005 Series III'* have the same ICM.

Will it didn't take long for my stumbling problem to return. The new ICM didn't make a difference so I put the old one back in. The new one was a loaner. I noticed when the car is having a stumbling episode it will continue until the SES light comes on and then the stumbling stops. When I turn the ignition off and then back on the light goes out. Does this make any sense? Anyone have an idea what'* going on? I've had this problem for a long time but it'* been very intermittent until lately. Yesterday on the way home from work it did it several times.

After a bit of diagnosic work, 3 new coils, a new cam shaft sensor and a lot of procrastination I narrowed my stumbling problem down to the PCM. I shelled out $139.00 and bought a new reconditioned PCM, installed it and my car is running fine now.
