help me or I may lose a race.....:(

Alright guys here goes. My car seems to have lost a shit load of power. For one when I manually shift it from 1 to 2 it does not want to shift very hard likes it is delayed. and also me supercharger doesn't seem to be kicking in all that well the boost gauge says it's hitting good but it does not really feel like it.I changed plugs and wires today also. Before it used to feel great to kick it down and hit the supercharger but now it's just disappointing....also it seems like when I rev it up in neutral first it will go blau... and then kick in, like a carb cutting out. so I am thinking fuel maybe but I put some lucas injector cleaner in it last time I filled it up and I am almost on empty, and it only has about 175 miles on this tank. is that normal (note my right foot is quite heavy, I walk with a limp) :P but please any info would be great.

My guess would be the oxygen sensor. I just put one in the 1989 Lesabre I am borrowing from my dad and it cleared those problems out perfect. I had been getting 150 miles on 20 gallons so I obviously needed something. I bought spark plugs and the o2 and in less than 45 minutes I had a car that was capable of 30 mpg on the freeway once again. Too bad that didn't last more than a week as I am back down in the 12-14 mpg range on the freeway.
Anyhow, try the o2 sensor. It should only cost about $25-30 and takes about 5-15 minutes to change.

Sounds like a good place to start. Running too rich can actually hurt performance as well as mileage. Do a full tuneup. If that doesn't do it, we can dig further. It's possible your torque converter may be slipping too much. How many miles on the car?

willwren I have 109000 miles on my car. How bad is your idea about the torque converter? what all is included in a tune up?

I had a problem just like that , it was the charger.
Do you hear any noise coming from the charger ?
Like a rattle. well I change the charger and my problems all gone.

I hope thats not the case for you.

goood luck

Charger do you mean supercharger or what?

willwren 03-08-2003 02:58 AM

If you're hitting 10psi of boost or close to it, don't worry about the supercharger right now. We need to concentrate on a FULL tuneup. You've done plugs and wires and injector cleaner. While that cleaner is working through the system, change your fuel filter and pcv valve. Check your air filter, and consider SERIOUSLY taking off your TB for a full cleaning. Also change your O2 sensor if it hasn't been done in awhile (50k or so).

If you still have a problem, you're no worse off. Your car needs this attention regardless. If none of this helps, we'll start narrowing down the possibilities. It's USUALLY not serious.

Well if its a Delyad shift... I would say ... uhhh Tranny problem??? and I never thought you were supposed to shift AUTOMATIC cars on the go... I dont know what the hell your power problem is though!

Make sure your plug wires are connected properly and not leaking a spark. Make sure u dont have a wire too close to the exhaust manifold. That's a suggestion for the power problem.
