Help! It's hot in the car
OK, there is heat coming into my car from somewhere I don't know of. what i've done so far: new cat and o2 sensor (in case it was plugged and heating up), checked the air door mix actuator, works fine and actually adjusted slightly out of calibration to ensure the door closes completely to cold b4 the actuator runs out of travel. Also ECC stuck on defrost/floor so I performed vacuum bypass surgery on the programmer and now all modes and recirc works just fine. Air does not work so I don't even turn the climate control on the temp was set to 60 and recirc door closed b4 turning off ECC. There is still heat coming into the car from somewhere and I don't know what to do next. Please someone help me b4 my wife shoots me for buying this car.
If not in my sig, i have a 97 ssei 180,000 miles |
I forgot to add that I have read page after page of thread after thread here at the club. This is how I've come to fix my vacuum leak and how I knew to check the door actuator. so I think i need some fresh help because i just can't find anything else.

bump, any ideas? anyone?

Is the heat shield above the cat still there? I think there are other heat shields along the exhaust path that might be worth checking to see if there still there.

The heat is actually coming in thru the vents. If I change the mode to vent or defrost the heat goes there. I only recently found this out as the vacuum was all blocked up until I bypassed the vacuum cluster in the programmer.

make sure your temperature setting on the ECC is set pretty low, otherwise its going to open up the heater core and that'll bring ALOT of heat into the cabin.
So yeah, just turn it on, set it to like 60 wait a sec for it to switch and then turn it off, heat should go away. |
tried that too. even with ecc on, temp at 60, a/c off, air blowing out of vents is hotter than outside air, recirc on/off doesn't matter. i know the air mix actuator and door are working, already disasembled and check and watched it work several times. could the engine heat be getting into the vent system somehow? if so, how?

Is the plastic on the firewall beh8ind the motor around the blower fan housing okay. I think I've seen where some got really brittle with age and heat and when people worked on their fan motor it cracked away. Could hot air from the motor be coming in there instead of the blower sucking air from on top of the cowl behind the hood seal that keeps out most of the motor's hot air.
|
kinda what i was thinking but i didn't know if it is a common problem with bonnies. I know the hood seal is good, that's about the 2nd or 3rd thing i checked. did a quick visual of the plastic housing around the blower and it looked good but i haven't taken it off, i supose i should do that to really check it good.

Do you have the passenger side heat/cool control ?
