I noticed a large # of gp owners have these and i was wondering if anyone here has done it or if their are lenses we can buy. I might get bold and try takin off the orange plastic but im not sure yet.

Supposedly boiling the lenses will allow easy removal of the orange filter.

Once the orange is removed, I recommend using LED lights to replace the bulbs: The LEDs are clear when off, but amber when on.

well im not sure if i want to do this or not. I would rahter go to a junk yard and buy a replacemt one and try that first b4 i boil my parts. but well see.

Those LED bulbs are not bad BUT have been known to blow fuses alot if circuit is overloaded! IE: lights on & signaling at same time!

I just tried putting the amber LED light in my inside turn signals yesterday. They fit and they looked GREAT but, I don't know if it is the ohms or what but the cars electrical system didn't like them at all. When I did get them to blink with the turn signals they flashed once really, really fast about every second and the four ways just stayed on and didn't flash, but the dash back-light did! :? I also had the driver information center light up with front light problems as well. So I ended up returning them to settle with the big orange bulb. Oh well...

The same thing happen in my buddie'* truck! We went through 5 fuses! We eventually gave up and put the original bulbs back in! It was a 98 Ram 1500 4X4 fully loaded too!

there'* a product at autozone called Jamstraight. that you wire in with the wiring harness of the bulb socket and it fixes the problem. i bought the blue LED to match the headlights and fog lights and bought the jam straight. but i can't work on my car till it comes back from the detailer. but when it does i will give the info.

Is the idea to break down the dye coloring of the plastic by extreme temperatures, or to get the seams to fall apart so the amber lens can be removed?

I've seen clear versions of some less-common GM taillights like a Caprice and an Astro van, and I couldn't believe that someone actually tooled up a production run of clear plastic in the original molds, so I was wondering if there was some bleaching process they can do instead.

I don't think that'll work for you; the side markers bridge the turn-signal and parking lamp circuits, and operate on current flowing in either direction, from whichever circuit is hot to whichever circuit is not (the latter serves as a ground path). When both circuits are hot, the marker lamp goes out. This is how the side markers can flash with the turn signals when parking lights are not on, but _alternate_ with the turn signals when parking lights _are_ on.

But an LED only works to pass current through in one direction; when voltage is reversed, it won't light up. So you'll wind up with an LED that only blinks for turn signals, or only lights with parking lights, but won't do both.

In addition, the reason you can get Lamp Out warnings from the DIC is because the Adaptive Lamp Monitor Unit is seeing weird current flow on one or more circuits with those LEDs in place, and decides that one or more bulbs are out, and gives you the warning that you see.

In short, on some circuits, using LED bulbs will cause you more headaches than they're worth.

there is also a bulb made from APC that is al chrome and when lighted it is amber they have them on jcwhitney.com they are only like 7 bucks

Can you find a link to those bulbs, or the part numbers? I can find APC stuff at the JCWhitney website but not those bulbs...
