Heater Core / Dash Removal

So I found out that my heater core is leaking. What exactly needs to come out to get to the heater core? Also are there any detailed tutorials?

Thanks in advance.

I have a 94 SSEi and my AC guy told me dash did not have to come out to change out the heater core. I think he said it is under the dash on the passenger side. I am sure some one else will chime in.

Do a search for the information here. You will find much valuable information including pix and a technique for changing the core without removing the dash.

Where? I have done that for about an hour and I even read some fo your posts. I have yet to find an actual thread with detailed instructions without removing the entire dash.

Are you referring to this?: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...rking&start=20

Yes. I believe that is as detailed as you are gonna find. And some pix are included, too. Perhaps Randman or RMac will pop in and offer some advice. When you do start to work, you could take some pictures as you go along and write up a procedure as you would have liked to have had to help you. That way, the next guy that does the job will have you to thank!

Great pictures

The pictures in the linked article you found are great. I saw those after I had taken out my programmer box for the electronic climate control. It's simpler than most of us think. It requires some work on your side on the floor.

Take a look at the connectors for the heater hoses to the heater stubs in the passenger compartment side. Those may be difficult to get off--some are easier with the pliers meant to grip the clamps.

I would take the glovebox door off to give more room. Have a good, cool source of light. I am amazed by the idea that only two screws hold the cover over the heater. It must clip into place on the backside!

Arakor:

I've never tried to pull the heater core, but I've gotten down to it and you don't need to pull the dash to get to it. You will have to remove your HVAC programmer to get the cover off, however. The link below isn't specifically for changing a heater core, but it will give you enough detail to get to it. Might be of help to you. As is always the case, getting stuff off is easy enough, putting it back together is another issue!

I appreciate the help. Had a friend come over who works at a pontiac dealership. We dropped the dash and got the heater core out. It was in fact leaking. Thanks for the .pdf because your right, putting it back together is another challenge in itself :)
