Default Grinding d/* front

I have some sort of grinding going on in my drivers front wheel well.
It happens when I apply hit brake and slow down but the grinding won't happen untill I'm half way or more to a complete stop. It gets worse when I get closer to a complete stop.
The grinding also continues as I start to accelerate and then it goes away untill I start coming to a stop. The grinding is also not continuous. It'* more like grind...grind...grind..etc.
When I press the brake at speed on the highway, I can't feel anything.
It started about 4 days ago and has gotten slightly worse.
And heres what I know so far:
It'* not the wheel bearing because I replaced it with a new one from NAPA and got the same results. It'* also not the brake pads because they have plenty of meat on them.
I had everything apart and couldn't see anything abnormal or rubbing or anything.
I'm thinking rotors?
I'm planning on swapping the p/* and d/* rotors when I get home to see if the grinding switches sides.
What about a lazy caliper piston?
Let me know what you guys think. I'm pretty confused.

You have either a warped rotor (very common on these cars, according to some here) or a sticking caliper, or both.

I wouldn't drive the car until I got it sorted out.

You might have tossed a pad. When you pull the rotors to check..look at the pads..you'll probably see it.

Unless it'* a trans issue.

I've had the caliper off to look at the pads twice. They look fine and theres alot of meat left too.
The grinding & noise seems like it'* further out torwards the wheel then the trans. At least I hope. :?

Granted, it was on my passenger side, but I started getting grinding of the same type you described a couple weeks before my trans went kaput. I thought it was a bearing or power steering related until it went away after my rebuild. May want to check your trans temp and fluid.

So, I swapped rotors and the grinding went away..
Hopefully it stays away.

Just FYI, I've seen this issue more than once, on a number of different makes and models. It'* always ended up being either a bad rotor surface (cut the rotor and it'* fixed), or bad pad surface (remove the pad, take some emery cloth and scuff the pad, reinstall). It'* very probable that the noise you describe will come back. If it does, scuff the pad, cut the rotor, and you should be set.

EDIT: Just wanted to clarify something -- it doesn't have to be emery cloth, sandpaper or something of the like will work just fine.

Ok well the grinding came back the following day and it was in the same wheel well?
I gave the rotors to a friend to have them spun and just put them on. I drove 5 miles or so, braked hard, normal, soft, and everything seems to be ok.
Hopefully this time everything will be ok like CSFiend was suggesting.
Thanks for the input guys.

bearings maybe..? because it could be the extra pressure on them when the wheels are being stopped...otherwise no clue..
