Hard starting, hesitation (with fuel pressure readings!)
 

Howdy. We're dealing with a '95 SSEi (kinda).

The past few days I've been experiencing hard starting. The start motor turns the motor over quick and all but takes maybe 10 seconds of turning for it to take off. Additionally, when a lot of throttle is applied at low speeds (like 1st gear speeds) it hesitates and bogs. Goes away when i let off the gas a bit.

I got out my fuel pressure gauge and found out the following...

I started with the engine off and no pressure. I turned the ignition on and heard the pump do its 2-second-or-so-prime. Gauge reads no change. I turned the ignition off and back on for another prime, but still no pressure on the gauge. I tried turning it on and back off both quickly and also waiting a few seconds. Tried waiting 30 seconds as well, but no pressure. I then started cranking the motor over. I heard the pump come back on, and pressure slowly built up to about 28 psi, and finally started. The L67 idles fine but I'm reading a mere 28 psi at idle. It stays about the same when revved. When I turned the engine back off, pressure was quickly lost (back to 0).

In another post I read to check if there's gas leaking from the vacuum outlet on the regulator, and there wasn't any in mine. I'm thinking it's the fuel pump that's my problem (intended for an '89 Turbo Trans Am, as suggested by Ryan of GMtuners). Its been working fine before and had 40 some psi, but been having this issue this week. Is it really my pump on its way out, or the regulator. Or something else? Thank you.

I went out and pulled the fuel rail off (with the injectors, harness, and lines still connected). I did not get any fuel out of them with the ignition turned on, which proves that I do not have an injector that's stuck open.

Fuel pump was used? Ditch it.

Get a Walbro 255.
