Interior lights staying on.
Okay boys,
The interior lights are staying on after i close the doors. This has been an intermittant problem for a while now, but it is perminent today. First thing I did was check the light switch to see if the wife had left the interior lights on. Nope. I then disconnected the battery then reconnected. Lights came back on. I consulted the wiring diagrams and found that fuse 15 supplies power to the lightbulbs. I pulled fuse 15 and the lights went out (as they should). I replaced the fuse and the lights came back on. The switching is on the negative side though, through the interior lights relay. I disconnected fuse 3 (on the relay center)(power to the relay) and the lights stayed on but the relay clicked (actuated) (I had the door open). I then pulled the relay out which would effectively isolate the ground totally from the system. The lights stayed on. Has onyone else had this problem? I am thinking that the system may have a short to ground (before the relay, possible in the light switch). Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

I ripped apart my dash and disconnected the headlight switch and no change. I then ripped apart the dome light to see if it was the problem and no change as well. I am quickly running out of options here

A short to ground in any of the 4 door switches would cause this. This is a highly suspect area for rust, wear, etc with the age of our cars. Probably one of the fronts, due to the higher rate of usage. I can snap a pic of the schematic and mail it to you if you like.

A schematic would be great. But, would the door switch not show up in the display center as being open? Hmm When I did get it working earlier I was opening and closing the door (passenger) and it would sometimes go off immediately and then other times it would take a few seconds and then it just stayed on again for good. I looked for the door switch and it must be internal in the door itself and not in the door frame. I haven't even put the dash back together yet :(

I don't have an electrical diagram anywhere near me, but seem to remember that the interior lights and the driver information center use two different switches at the door.
The first thing we need to know is which circuits bypass the relay, and activate the interior lights.
There are three ways (circuits) to get them on:
RAC module
Headlamp switch
Door switch

I woke up early this fine Sunday morning (frigid but sunny) with the intentions of solving this beast. Firstly I put back together the dash. You guys are right, the only ways for the lights to come on is by the relay (I took the relay out) and the lightswitch (I took the lightswitch out). The door switches are grounded through the relay from the Remote Accessory Controller (module), which in turn display door ajar on the message center. The message center was displaying properly. The other switches in the door are for the two forward door locks which are for Anti-theft. I did an inventory of all the interior lights that were on that circuit and there were 8 in total. All were lit. Since I was having problems with the passenger door, I figured that would be the best place to start. I pulled the light assembly out of the door and disconnected the harness and checked the blue and white wire for a ground. It should have been grounded because all of the lights were staying on. There was no ground. WTF??!! Plug it back in and then replace the fuse (relay actuates lights come on. I close the door and voila works properly. I opened and closed the door over and over to see if it kept working. No problems. Guess i wont know if that was really it or a coincidence. Thanks for the help guys.

Dontcha love it when you fix something, and then someone say "So, how'd ya do it" and you look 'em in the eye and say "I hoestly have no idea".
Sometimes I think it'* just the threat of being taken apart again makes stuff reconsider being broken...
