OK, we took off the SC belt.
The SC coupler has about 1/4" of free play but when started the engine, it sounded the same.
Put the belt back on and no real change. Sometimes the engine quiets right down and does not make any noise but if you rev it just a little the noise comes back.
It doesn't sound good. :(
A light rapping knock and a squealing. Sure sounds like a rod bearing.

I had issues with my motor 70 Miles from my hometown when it started to sound like what you posted...
This is what it sounded like the next morning...
I'd have to say it sounds a lot like the motor is done... As long as you checked the Balancer to make sure it was still solid and intact...

i had a very similar noise on my 92 L27. it ended up being the nosecone from the starter breaking, and a chuck of aluminum was clanking against the flywheel. may be worth checking.

Thanks John. People need to remember the Series 1 isn't a belt bitch like the 96-99 S2.
Both belts come completely off without messing with any mounts. That motor needs to be revved to about 3k in a quick stabbing motion with neither belt on, and the HB needs to be inspected.
