Default Anyone have a Scantool I can borrow?

Or buy
I need one kinda badly. My car is acting kinda weird, and I have no clue where to start. Well, I do, but I'd like to confirm my suspicions, ya know? I'll pay for shipping both ways

P.*. Need an OBD1

Alrighty, well here is part of the problem he is having. He has dim lights and such at idle, and upon taking off, everything brightens up and all is fine. His ECC is flashing and the car runs rough. Now I am thinking that it is the 105A alternator that is on there. it is good, but I think it doesn't have enough power for all the stuff he is running, IE: MP3 player charger, ECC, stereo, etc. Am I close to the problem source, in which he may need a 140 on there?

Also, I think the contribution to the problem is that it'* a rebuilt alt. but I noticed his cooling fan on the alt is bent, in which would cause vibrations and destroy the bearings, and there is a odd squeak upon spinning it.

That sure as heck sounds like a bigger/new alternator would be in order to me!

Or, a cheaper, quicker fix (since he'll probably need it anyway) is replce and upgrade the battery. I bumped mine up to the biggest one that would fit, and my dimming problem went almost completely away.

Pretty sure this will be split into two posts, one for general and asking about the scanner and another for the mechanical issues.

Have you removed the battery cables at both ends of all cables and cleaned the contacts? This would be the first step.

Then, have you had the alternator and battery tested? From the sound of the symptoms your alternator'* regulator may be starting to go bad. Surely you both have made enough of a case that it is having an issue.

There'* not necessarily a need to go bigger and there'* nothing wrong with rebuilt when done properly. Upgrading to a larger alternator capacity would not hurt though.

Best course of action is to clean contacts and then test both the battery and alternator, find out if either isn't keep up.

Your running rough issue could be directly related to the battery voltage, however that needs to be addressed before the rough running to determine if it is a factor.

ECC Flashing, the system has a fault.. There is a bunch or procedures we can go through to help determine the cause. Is the system doing anything odd or contrary to your choices.
