Recently on my '94 SE the shifter and the tranny clicks/ticks alot when in reverse (like the gears didn't fully disengauge). I can stop it by slightly pulling back on the shifter. I was wondering if there is any type of an adjustment that can be made in the shift linkage or shifter itself to solve the problem? Other than that the transmission runs beautifully

You are saying the shifter and transmission both click/tick? Do you have a column or console shifter?

Yea you can hear a ticking/clicking noise and you feel the the ticks/clicks in the shifter and it a console shifter.

The shifter cable adjustment is located at the top of the trans. The adjustment allows the individual gear positions to coincide with the "notches" in the shifter. To adjust, pry the U shaped pin up. Sometimes the pin is metal and other times it'* plastic. This allows the shifter cable end to move in and out of the bracket.

It'* a little difficult to explain without pics. If the text isn't helpfull, I can show you. I'm just in East longmeadow.

Geeezzz didn't know there where so many local people on this forum, I'll take a look tomorrow morning and see if i can better see the cable adjuster thingy, how would one properly adjust it to fix my problem?

If pulling back is the way you want to go then you would unscrew the adjuster to gain distance or have it further toward the back of the car.

Well, I'm not convinced that adjustment will correct your problem, but it'* a good place to start.

If the clicking sound goes away if you pull the shifter back, you need to adjust the cable back. Pry U pin up, pull back a little, reset pin and test. Repeat if necessary

okay so i found the shifter cable adjustment and what i think is the "U" clip(its facing downward). So to adjust i would unclip it and have someone hold it in a position where the the clicking would not take place and then re-insert the clip?

Almost. I would just pull the cable back a little bit and then reset the pin. It'* usually just a small adjustment. The pin doesn;t need to be fully removed in order to adjust.

You are correct about the facing position of the U pin. It does face downward.
