After my 1993 SSE got destroyed, I had its remote entry key fob lying around. Although my '95 SSE came with a remote, I didn't want the old one to go to waste.

I asked Google for directions on programming my new car for the old fob, but the closest I could find was for 1996 Bonnies. I assumed that the computer in the '95 was similar enough, so I set to work. Here is the procedure:

(As usual, I don't guarantee the accuracy of these instructions. If you screw something up, it'* your own fault. Don't do this procedure if you don't know what you're doing.)
  1. Turn the ignition off
  2. Connect a jumper wire between pins 4 & 8 on the Data Link Connector (see photo below)
  3. When the jumper connection is made, the power locks should respond by locking and unlocking
  4. Simultaneously press both the lock and unlock buttons on the first transmitter
  5. Hold for a second, and then release
  6. If the programming was successful, the locks should lock and then unlock.
  7. Repeat steps 4-6 for additional transmitters
  8. Disconnect the jumper wire
  9. Verify the operation of each transmitter
Here'* the DLC:

That'* it!

I think that on the pre-1995 cars, you needed to physically access the remote receiver and jumper something on it. It'* all kinda hazy, though...

Default If anyone knows how to reprogram keyfobs :

I'm looking for info on reprogramming the key fobs for 88 SSE , the dlc data terminal is a 6 pin out not 8 like the 90 and up models , my Formula was 8 pin and was very easy to redo but on a 6 pin this has me stumped for about 2 weeks now . Thanks .

Yeah he'* showing an OBD-II connector, us pre-95 guys have the OBD-I rectangle connector.

On my car, you have to hold down a button that'* dangling from the remote locks module while you do something funky with the remotes. or something.
