Gas problems
Have a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville SE 3.8 The car runs great with it's newly rebuilt engine. Recently I noticed it has been using a lot of gas. Upon inspection - I see smoke being emitted from the tail pipe with a heavy odor of gas. I cleaned my MAP sensor. Car still smokes at tailpipe. Tried raping the gas regulator to see if anything was stuck (who knows)..and also fixed a leaking vacuum line at the gas regulator.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this to happen. I also thought of a oxygen sensor. I am thinking the gas regulator is bad or the oxygen sensor is bad. Has anyone ever had this happen to there car. I had checked the forum and saw no mention of this kind of problem - specifically. Thank you for your help. |
Check/change/test your intake air temp sensor, MAF, O2 sensor. These all effect your AFR. If you have a strong gas spell at the tail pipe your cat may be shot.

How bad are you doing on gas?

I have been having the same problem with my 93 ssei and have had not luck getting it any better.

do either of you have an codes? ses light? or is it just going thru gas?
|
No codes at all.

So you said you cleaned the MAF sensor and it's still smoking and smelling of gas? I would change the upper O2 sensor next. Go with a DENSO and stay away from the BOSCH. After you change the sensor, then let's see what happens from that point forward.
