Default repairs and nice idle TransGo Kit

In the pursuit of chasing my KR and making some needed repairs, I have just completed the following:

2nd tranny rebuild (mechanic was installing the Transgo kit for me and noticed that she was about to blow)
Transgo kit installed
Every mount replaced
2nd tranny cooler (stock tranny cooling is gone, now running about 40K lb cooling capacity, one 18K and one 22K)
Timing chain set - was definately stretched
Oil pump (because I was there)
Water pump (because I was there)
Harmonic balancer (rubber was cracking)
Raditor rebuilt (one end was cracked and cleaned the core)
new belts and hoses
Crank and Cam sensor (and magnet) (because I was there)
Idler and tension pulleys

The Transgo kit ...................... SWEET. Still working on the first 500 miles. I'll find out what it'* really like after that. TCC lockup is like another gear shift now.

Timing chain replacement was an experience. First time for me and thank god I had the FSM. 4 days of meticulous work. I thought I was going to have to have Dame send his little sister up here to help with the crank bolt, but a breaker bar wedged in place and bumping the starter broke it free. Chain was definately stretched, had to wiggle the crank to get the new set on. Would have gone a little faster if I wasn;t so anal about cleaning parts before they went back on the car. Oh yeah, that fel-pro gasket kit for the oil pan with the little plastic snaps to hold things in place, yeah, ....... IT'* THE BOMB!!!!

So after all of this, there I sat, praying to the Pontiac Gods before I hit the key. Worried about the oil pump priming, so I disconnected the coil and cranked her a few times. Connected them back, bumped the key, she fired right up. Oil pressure is great. She purred like a kitten. As smooth as sweet cream butter that'* been sitting out on a hot summer'* day. Driving the car is almost like a dream now. She was good before, extremely smooth throughout now.

I did notice 2 things. 1)Lifter noise is much more noticable now, I am guessing due to the fact that the rest of her is so quiet. It'* not clatter, just seems like you can hear them working. Should I be concerned? I'm thinking a spring project might be a top end rebuild with new lifters, rockers, and springs. Undecided on the cam, leaning towards leaving it stock. 2) When I scanned last night with 49* of ambient temps, I am still picking up 2* - 5* KR at WOT. Not nearly as consistent as before, and not to the same degree. I'll wait a bit and let things settle in some more before scanning again. I am not sure what could be left other than a hot spot, something like the edge of a head gasket sticking in the combustion chamber or something. Wondering if I install some water/alky injection, if it might not kill off the rest of my KR until I can get the heads off this spring? Any advice?

As far as the TransGo shift kit, so far I LOVE IT. Nice sweet, crisp, clean shifts and that TCC lockup is mad.

45 min in the shower this morning scrubbing with GoJo and a brush, I can now see the skin on my hands and nails again.

Before I get blasted, I know this thread needs pics. Unfortunately, Dad has claimed my memory card and I need to get another. :(

PS Did I mention how awesome that TransGo shift kit is?

I told warned you about that shift kit. You and Matt are like kids in a candy shop now. That TCC lockup in OD is INSANE. It'* like my stock (pre-jet) 2nd gear shift.

Now imagine having two L67 Bonnevilles. One with a stock trans and the other with a built trans and shift kit. It'* tough to switch back and forth.

Yeah, well, consider the warning disregarded. I did it anyway.

I'm off this week, so now I am out to put on some more miles trying to hit that first 500.

Any thoughts on the KR and/or water injection? If I do it, I'm thinking about this:

Switching back and forth has got to be like leaving your hot girlfriend'* house for dinner at your grandmother'*.

Those guys are fairly new on the water injection market, but seem to have good products. Don't expect the power differences they have listed on their main page.

Whether it reduces your KR or not is totally dependent on the source of your KR. If it'* exhaust-caused (very likely) you need to fix that first. I've built 4 custom systems and tested them in my 93. My current system is strictly manual, not variable. I did this primarily for testing and WOT track runs, although I've never run it at the track. I will this spring.

Their prices seem reasonable.

Your KR is very likely due to cracks in the EM'* (I've had this as have several other Series 1'*), and restrictive OEM welds at each port.

Default trans

how much did the trans kit cost you?
Had a B&M kit in my Roadrunner years ago. It was awsome. Chirped 2nd gear.

Mine was installed during a full performance rebuild, so I have no idea what the cost of the shift kit really was.

My SSEi chirps second every time now. Serious traction loss at WOT 2nd shifts when slightly damp.

Their power claims do seem a little unreasonable, but it does look like a quality product.

I would agree with your EM assesment, however, my EM'* have already been removed, cracks welded, cleaned, ceramic coated in and out, powder coated, and ported. Cracks are all healed up, they were in the usual places. Welds have been greatly reduced. I was amazed at the amount of material that I was able to remove.

I think the kit was around $50. Mine was installed during a rebuild as well so the labor is tough to gauge. I will tell you that it is pretty extensive if you use every option (I did on Bill'* reccomendation). i would never attempt to drill and plug a valve body like that myself. Hell, I hardly understand how a tranny works anyway. Google the kit and you should find it easily online - TransGo 4T60eJr
