Coolant color
The coolant in my '96 Bonneville SE has a tint of red in it and when I look inside I can see little pieces of red floating in it. Does that mean its going bad? I haven't had the coolant flushed since I got the car used a year ago.

That'* DEX. Would be a good idea to flush the system out. If your going to change to a different kind of coolant, such as green. make sure you flush everything out including the over flow bottle. If you mix DEX and green it will turn sludgy.

When I converted from DEX, I drained and capture all the fluid I could, pulled the reservoir off, removed the T-stat housing and flushed with copious amount of fresh water through the radiator, then the block. I had to take a bottle brush and some Simple Green to the reservoir to get all the sludge out. While you are going this far, now would be a good time to replace the T-stat as well.

I got the coolant looked at today and the mechanic said everything looks fine. Must not be as bad as I originally thought.
