fuel pump died
well tonight my fuel pump finally bit the dust, now before i replace it i would like to correct my non working gas gauge, it always reads full, does anyone have any suggestions on where to get a new pump/sending unit or brands to avoid?

I just used the Advanced Auto Parts standard stuff. Looked decent quality, fit well, pump is not any louder than the original. Of course, I also ain't driving yet, as I need to replace my flexible pressure fuel line tomorrow morning.
Be prepared for sticker shock. The sending unit is $150-$170. The pump was $120 for me. I also bought a new sock and O-ring kit... which where more expensive than I expected... but I get to take the $16 O-ring kit back, as the sending unit (in my case) included one. I also am springing for a $70 flexible fuel line, as I wasn't sure if the Advanced Auto part would fit. Then there is the job... hope you have some GOOD friends. ;-) BKNJ |
Avoid sending units made by Spectra Premium. The one I bought from Rock Auto was DOA. Means I had to drop the tank a second time. The AC Delco sending unit is about $300 but will work when you install it.

I also went with the an AC Delco pump and sender. Cost about $430 for both components (including the o-ring). This was for our 99 SE that we sold over the summer.

I went used. I got an entire unit (pump&sender) from Ed Morad for $75.

well, Just got off the phone with advance auto, a sending unit from "spectra premium" is on the way, personally I would much rather have a delco unit, however I am sick and tired to throwing gobs of money at this car for the time being, and the specta unit was only about $150.
now the fuel pump, I have never heard good things about "Master" electric fuel pumps, they also offer a "Bosh" brand pump for slightly more should I spring for that? |
If you have further problems, just get your money back and contact Ed Morad (moradpartscompany).

but right after I posted last AA called me back, and said they had one in stock, so I naturally picked it up, this one is a "fine lines" brand, i believe i used one of these on one of the luminas awhile back and had issues with it, however i put a multimeter on this one tonight and it does change value as I move the bobber up and down so I should be good to go |
welp just dropped the tank out today, changed it all, used a Bosch Brand pump, so far the cer seems to be doing alright, hopefully won't need towed anymore.
