Well, it'* time to replace the fuel pump in my '99 Bonneville. The question is: Which one do I choose?
Rockauto has several to pick from, and there is this one at Amazon:

Does anyone have any recommendations? I was thinking about going with the Carter kit from Rockauto:

Lessons learn have shown DELPHI or AC/DELCO (same) are the only choice for replacing a fuel pump on a 90'* or later GM vehicle. The good news is the DELPHI is only $5 more than the Carter kit at RockAuto:

The pump may be only $5.00 more, however the Carter includes the a new sock and gasket, the Delphi does not. I would love to have the Delphi, but after you buy the needed accessories for the Delphi that are included with the Carter, the total price for the Delphi approaches $90.00+ dollars. I am not sure that I want to spend the extra for a car I don't intend to keep more than a year or two.

I truly appreciate your response, it gives me more to think about.

One other question:

Would it be a good idea to get new straps for the tank at the same time as I get the pump?

It'* worth paying the extra money for the Delphi pump otherwise your car might make you into a pedestrian sooner than later. As far as the straps I've never replaced them but I don't live in the rust belt, just take a look at them and try to lossen the bolts and order the parts you think you'll need. You can always return a unused part.

Hold the horses! I made an error. The price is not as high as I thought, now that I went to the rockauto site and double checked. When all tolled, the Delphi is only about 10 bucks more with the needed accessories. So that puts the Delphi near the top of the list.

Stay away from Airtex. Crap pumps last just outside the 1 year warranty.

job is a pain, so i would do whatever i can to make it last. so i wouldnt buy anything other than delphi and make sure everything is 100% air tight it only takes a minute pinhole leak to be fighting evap codes forever. straps depend on the condition of yours and if you can get them apart

If you have the extra money, buy both straps. If you end up fighting to get the old ones off, just cut them, drop the tank, replace your pump and you will see what GM did to get those tank straps up there to begin with. I replaced the most idiotic design of a nut that GM used to bolt to with normal bolts and nuts and custom bent(torched) an open end wrench to fit up in that area perfectly should I ever have to drop the tank again.

This is what they look like new, but after years of rust it turns into a round donut when you try to remove them.

I'm convinced, I will get the Delphi pump, along with a new strainer and O-ring.
As for the straps, I'll give it an inspection this weekend and go from there.

I placed the order today. I ordered a Delphi pump, a matching strainer and a new lock ring with an "O" ring. The straps on the car look OK, so I didn't order them. While I was under the car I gave the bolts a shot of PB Blaster and will do so at least one more time before I do the repair next weekend.
