Fuel pressure regulator & fuel lines

92' SSE
are the fuel lines connected to the fuel pressure reg. (with a rubber hose) suppose to be loose or is the line suppose to be accutually connected to the regulator even with the rubber hose around it?

Put you year make and model in you sig so we know what we are answering... There were a few changes from 92-99 ;)

Thanks for editing your year into the post.

I'm still not sure what you are asking, sorry...could you be a little clearer on what you are asking? ;)

The only thing 'connected to' your FPR is the vacuum line. Make sure it doesn't leak.

BillBoost37 05-18-2006 11:15 AM

Let me try and elaborate on what has been said.

Your fuel lines come from the fuel sending unit located in the fuel tank. The supply passes through a fuel filter enroute to the front of the car. At the engine the fuel lines are connected to the fuel rail which is also connected to the six injectors. A fuel pressure regulator is mounted in that fuel rail and has a vacuum line going to it from the upper intake manifold (usually a few inches back from the throttle body).

Will,

I noticed when I've been working on bufford the last couple of days that there's a 90 degree elbow on that vacuum line right on the pressure regulator. Well I noticed mine is cracking, possibly leaking. I should get that replaced. Wonder if that is contributing to my problem? Is that something I can get anywhere (autozone) or do I have to go OEM on that ?

Thanks

Yes...giterdone. Watch out for different sized vacuum fittings on the same line. One end will look like 1/8 and the place that hose tooks to might be 1/4 ;)

lash 05-18-2006 03:23 PM

I'm not sure if you'll be able to get that at your local parts store. I got mine at the GM dealer for like $3. Well worth it though.

BMWhound 05-18-2006 03:28 PM

Lash,

Thanks...dealer sounds like the way to go. Even my poor pocketbook can handle 3.00 bucks :P .

BillBoost37 05-18-2006 03:54 PM

I picked up a silicone hose kit at Pepboys... More than $3 though.

trigga_b 05-18-2006 04:41 PM

iight thanks for the replies, what would a bad fuel pump cause?

Problems ;)

Could be a no start, could be issues at rpm...could be darn near any running issue.

Why, do you suspect your fuel pump is bad?

BMWhound 05-19-2006 02:36 PM

Lash or Boost,

Do either of you know the part number of that elbow piece on the FPR ? I called the local dealer and stumped the poor kid. Is that something I could get @ GMPD ?

Thanks in advance.

BillBoost37 05-19-2006 02:55 PM

BMW, you found the reason I bought silicone hose. No impossible part number lookups. Lash should be able to help ya

BMWhound 05-19-2006 03:39 PM

Boost,

Either way. It doesn't really matter. So where can I get the silicone tubing from ? Pricing about the same ?

Thanks

lash 05-19-2006 03:42 PM

BMW, is yours an elbow or a "T", because the Tee number is in my vacuum hose thread, IIRC.

If it is just an elbow, w/two holes, then I don't have the number right now. Your GM parts guy should be able to look it up, even over the phone, if he's worth his salt.

If you don't have any luck, I'll call for you. Just let me know. ;)

BMWhound 05-19-2006 03:49 PM

Lash,

Thanks. Simple elbow with 2 holes. I'm waiting for a call back from the dealer, but thats been 3 + hours ago. I'm sure he's to busy handing parts out to the guy's in the shop  I guess you might have to call for me.

banned3800 05-19-2006 04:08 PM

Last time I tried to get those rubber vacume fittings, the dealership was only able to locate one... He gave it to me and said he was sorry he could not locate the other... No charge... He felt bad... They are hard to comeby

Jr's,

Interesting. Seems like a simple enough part to me. If I can get the elbow (easily) then great. But I don't want anyone or myself to have to jump through hoops to get it. If it can be remedied with the silicone tubing then I will go that route. Someone will have to tell me where to get it from (AutoZone?).

lash 05-19-2006 04:38 PM

OK, BMW, here's what I've found. I can get the "Tee" all day long, but the elbow is "no longer serviced" , so I asked to buy a vacuum line assembly/kit if it came with the elbow. Kit comes w/o comnnectors (of course), lol.

If it were me, I would go straight to AZ or Advance and get a length of rubber/sillicone vacuum hose in the correct diameter(s) and create a loop or large diameter curve into the FPR. With a little creative thought, you should be able to do it without making it look rigged.

BMWhound 05-19-2006 04:45 PM

Lash,

Will do...Thanks for the effort. Sometimes our world is a little wierd/funny :) I think those guys @ Autozone know me by name this week :P I'll pick up on the way home and get that done before the journey tomorrow. Thanks again everyone.

I tried the stuff from autozone once. It started collapsing on me within a few months. Come to find out it is made in china and is not pure silicone. Then bought some from www.stylinmotors.com, wall thickness was much thicker and after 30k miles is still doing great.

Did you buy rated vacuum hose or just a dress-up kit? It matters. ;)

I purchase rubber vacuum hose from AZ all the time and it has yet to fail on me. :D

NilsPils 05-22-2006 10:08 AM

It is rated vacuum hose and is SAE approved.

lash 05-22-2006 10:11 AM

OK, I wasn't clear. I meant the hose that you got from AZ that failed.

NilsPils 05-22-2006 10:18 AM

No, the silicone hose from autozone does not have a rating on it. That is why I was telling the poster above to stay away from the silicone hose at autozone.
