I'm pretty well convinced that the thermostat on my 94SE is stuck open as the car never seems to get warm and the needle stays about halfway between the 1st mark and the 200 mark even after I've been driving the car for 15 minutes or so.

What is involved in changing the thermostat in the way of gasket, seals, thermostat (is the stock one a 195F?)? VIN is 1G2HX52L4R#######

Any advice as usual is much appreciated.

Just rev it up a whole bunch and warm her up manually, lol.

jus get all the old gasket material off take out old t stat and insert new one and ur good to go

I assume that it is similar to a '93. It'* easy to replace, and as Kennginn said...make sure you get all the old gasket and sealer off both surfaces. When you get the parts, make sure that they also give you the rubber seal (like a flast o-ring). They often forget that when you get the parts. So you should have a 195 t-stat (standard), a flat gasket, and a rubber seal. I just answered in another post the part numbers...but, this is what I bought yesterday, part numbers and what I paid

T-stat Borg/Warner 13849 - $4.59; Gasket Felpro - 35534 - $1.52; Seal Felpro 35486 - $1.74.

if you want you can go with a 180 degree t-stat also

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the 180F thermostat over the stock 195F one?

First, happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Second, I'll be changing my thermostat in my 94SE this weekend. As I haven't changed one on this car before am I correct that it is under the fitting with the bleed valve on it just to the rear of the corrugated metal hose from the EGR valve?

I understand that there is the gasket, 195F thermostat, and a seal to be purchased and I was also advised to drill 2 - 1/16" dia. holes in the thermostat flange as well.

Anything else to be aware of? VIN is 1G2HX52L4R#######.

Your location would help. Put that in your profile, and put your 94 SE in your signature with any mods listed. It'll help.

The 180 is sound advice. I run a drilled 180° in my SSEi year-round (like the pic I posted in that other topic, but 2 smaller holes now). Your climate may dictate otherwise, so tell us where you are, and some others in your area can tell you what they do.

Otherwise, you got it all right. I suggest buying Chiltons #28200 for about 15 bucks. It'll take you right through it.

Why would I use a 180? I thought stock was 195F. I will pick up the Chiltons book.
