Default infant/child car set problem - 99 model

Okay, seems searching has not turned-up any other articles on this topic.

I have a 1999 SSE and I am having problems getting an infant seat securely mounted on the back seat. The fact that the seat belt retractor does not have a position in which it "locks" prevents me from getting the belt tight enough to keep the infant seat from moving around. In the center position the car seat will flop from side to side due to the arch in the middle of the rear seat padding. The leather seats don't help much, either.

My bride'* car is a 1994 SSE but the rear seat belt set-up is different (two retractors per belt rather than one) as well as the fact that the retractors can be forced to "lock" by pulling them all the way out, then feeding the slack back onto the reel.

Anyone out there have ant advice on how to get an infant seat installed in a Bonneville?

Thanks,
Bob Martel

You may need to purchase a "locking clip" for the seatbelt. Most infant seats come with the locking clip... a flat metal piece that slips over both belts to eliminate belt slip. Check your owners manual as well for proper placement and securement instructions

are you kneeling down on the baby seat to make it sink a little into the seat? you could also check with the police department or a clinic to have someone put it in.

Default locking clips and such

Thanks for the info.

I have tried the locking clip...there is also one built into the car seat. The issue with getting the seat "tight" (even when kneeling on it) is that the seat belt retractor does not "lock" on the '99 in the same manner as it will on the '94. The '94 has a label attached to the belts in the back seat outlining the procedure to "lock" the retractor for infant seat use - there are no such instructions for the '99.

I will ask at the dealer service dept when I pick the '99 up (why are the fuel sending units so darn expensive?) about this issue.

Next stop after will likely be the Fire Dept for inspection/assist.

Thanks again for the comments.
