Factory manual goofup: What's the right torque setting

...for those two big-*ss nuts that secure the bottom of the front strut to the steering knuckle?

I'm looking at doing the job on my '93 soon, so I got out the manual and found the procedure on pages 3C-3 and 3C-4. Fine, except the text says that the two large nut-and-bolt assemblies at the bottom of the strut get 190 N·m (140 lb. ft.), but the _diagram_ for the procedure (Figure 5) very clearly says that they're supposed to get 75 N·m (55 Lb. Ft.)

They're not even _close_ to agreeing with each other; what gives? Can somebody look this up in a post-1993 manual and see if they ever got this straightened out?

For a 1998;

Tighten the strut to knuckle bolts to 190 N·m (140 lb ft).

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

I have this for a 2000, should be similar?

Tighten the strut to knuckle bolts to 185 N·m (136 lb ft).

I don't think 55 lb-ft is nearly enough torque. You don't want those to move at all, or else bye-bye alignment.

Mine are all at 140 lb-ft.

Sounds good. They're pretty thick bolts to begin with; 140 lb. ft. should be good; thanks...
