Default Attn: Gear Heads, Need help codes 17 & 19

I could really use some suggestions as to possible causes of these problems.
Any help would be great

Recent history:

First code 41 & 19 so I changed the Cam sensor but was getting weird voltage readings on the same wire in different locations (PCM & Coil pack) after. This is still unknown as to the source. I inspected the wiring but didn't see anything out of the ordinary no melting, nothing loose, etc.

Currently:
I also started seeing code 17 recently but it hasn't caused the car to stall.
http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...458&highlight=

Tonight on the way home from getting gas the car started stalling on me every time I stopped at traffic lights. Luckly I made it home.

So I hooked up the scan tool and found a code that I haven't seen in a while code 19 & code 17.

I know that all these are tied into the same circuit and share wires and signals etc.
I'm thinking it might be either the Crank sensor or the ICM.

Has anyone seen this before ? What was the cause ?

Any suggestions, advice or help would be great,
Thanks in Advance,
Dutch

I'm not sure where you were measuring the voltages at but if you weren't comparing what you were seeing against a second reading that used battery- for ground then you need to check again. A bad ground can cause all kinds of odd readings as well as corrosion IN the wiring itself.

Check against Battery negative and if you get better readings then you have a ground cleaning job to do. If the readings don't firm up then I would start examining the wiring for nick'*/holes/bare spots where water could get in. Check the connectors too.

I'm assuming you already checked/replaced the battery cables from your earlier problems.

^^^ good advice ^^^

Are you sure you're getting code 19? I don't see it listed in techinfo or my Chilton'* manual.

Code 19: Crankshaft position sensor or circuit.

The Battery cables are perfect, zero corrosion.
When testing the wires I was using a long jumper off of the ground post on the Battery.
I just double checked the battery connections this morning, after your suggestions.

The wire I was testing last time around was the Black wire (Cam Signal Out - Pin Fwire 630) at the Coil pack which continues to the PCM (Pin BA12) under the dash.
This is the wire that I was getting different voltages on, check out the first link I posted.

The reason I started checking this is because I was using diagnostic flow chart from Mitchell to troubleshoot.
Where does this harness come through the firewall to the PCM ?

I'm thinking it is a bad part, but the question is which one is causing it ?
There are so many things tied to this circuit, Cam, Crank, Ignition Module, Fuel, Anti-theft, etc.

Ya its code P019 it must be a Dealer code or something, cause Mitchell only lists a combined code for Crank/Cam code 18.

I just looked up the code through my scan tool software via the net and it says:
"Cam/Crankshaft Pos. Correlation Sensor B - Bank 2"
Any idea what this means ? Coil pack ?

What is involved in checking or changing the Crank sensor ?
Pulley removal but what else ?

Thanks,
Dutch

Any ideas ?

How hard is it to change the Crank Sensor ?

Is there a way to test it first ?

Thanks,
Dutch

There are no "p" codes in your PCM.

We need to verify the codes you have, and find out what this 19 is.

Please re-check for codes using the paper-clip trick in Techinfo.

I already erased the codes.

I could probably get them to reset by driving the car but its taking a chance that I don't really want to risk. I don't want to have to tow the car home from somewere.

I will try and reproduce the code by letting it idle and see if it gives the same code with the paper clip trick.

It doesn't matter which scan tool I use (I have 2) it gives the same code with both.
I have the Actron CP9110 and the Actron CP9190.

I can't remember for sure if the "P" was in front of the number or not, but the number was 19 cause I wrote them down 17 & 19.

19 is also listed in my Haynes manual.

Is there a way in the FSM to test the Crank sensor with a mulitmeter ?

Thanks,
Dutch
