Default 2 problems

the check engine soon light is on

1. the car will... so to speak will rev its self up... i can be just turning the car on, coasting down the road, or even sitting at a stop sign/light and car will on the occasion rev up to ne where between 1.5k and 3.5k rpms

2. at ne given time the car will shut off. no hints that it is going to happen or anything. oil pressure gauge drops and then dinger goes off saying check gauges then as soon as the ding comes in power steering goes out... (given considering car is shut off) but its wierd how the power steering doesnt go out till oil pressure has dropped.
usually if i am going down the road at a decent speed i can put it in nuetral and start it back up. but sometimes i cant do that it will only work if a come to a stop and put it in park and turn it back on that way

i just bought a new battery and cables about 3 months ago (i checked around on here to see if someone else had problem and all i could find was check cables)

When you mean the car "shuts off", does it bog down and stall, or does it shut off like when the key is turned off? From number 1 and 2, it sounds like a failing/erratic IAC.

You probably don't have two problems.

Pull those codes and post them up. We'll have an idea how to help you with that information.

Yes..Head over to Advance Auto or whatever part of the Parts America chain you have there and have them pull the check engine codes that are stored in the PCM.

Without that information.. we may waste your time and money hoping to stumble across the actual cause of the problem.

Oh wait, you have a '94. You need to go to a dealer, or find someone with a scanner that is able to read 94/95 PCMs.

Ok..that place has a scanner for OBD2, meanwhile..your car is the elusive OBD1.5 hybrid.

Well...meanwhile..
Check for vacuum leaks, battery cable corrosion and perform a throttle body cleaning..
