Default Transmission case EXPLODES AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am wondering if any one has any ideas about a seem to be frequent tranny problem. We have replaced the spider gears and differential case on our car. It is on the right side of tranny behind the tire. We had a hole in it the first time the size of a fist. The spider gear broke and blew out thru the case. We replaced and everything seemed fine no fluid leaks. Ran great. Now about 800 miles we had something break and go thru the case again. This time though is a small hole about the size of a pencil. Was wondering if anyone has heard of this and how to stop it. Can we check to see if something from the previous failure is stuck inside tranny. We put a magnet in the tranny when we did the last replace and could not find anything. Any info would be a big help. Love the car but am scared to keep it.

Thanks
Dawn

Default same problem

I've had my differential exit the right side of the case 3 times so I'd like to know why also.
The whole differntial setup on the 4t60'* seems small and weak to me. Hmmm.

I blew mine out about 20000 miles ago as well. I'm guessing yours looked something like this:

I still have the old tranny and I am thinking about doing a teamdown of it just to see what it'* like inside. It'* already shot so what harm can I do!

yes we replaced the differential and the case. Never thought in a million years after the first time that it would happen again. Our first blow up looked exactly like that picture. This time is very small hole about pencil size. Was told that maybe the small pin the the differential broke and came thru the case. To my knowledge car has been reasonably well cared for. Have only had about 5 months. It is not supercharged.

lol - sooo true.

try to wear a pair of gloves too... there'* some good sharp edges in there that you can miss if you're not careful.

did you fix the previous problem yourself, or did a tranny shop do it?

The tranny I am ripping apart was once rebuilt already by a tranny shop 30000 miles earlier. Not sure about the one in the first post.

did you guys r&r everything in the tranny, or just what seemed to be the affected parts?

hmmm.... strange indeed... makes me wonder if there'* some 'foreign material' in there...

well good luck on getting it right this time - just make sure you take everything out, and make sure that everything that goes back in is as clean as humanly possible, w/o leaving any fibers or material on anything (oh yeah, and soak the clutch packs in tranny fluid for a while before you do it, but i'm sure he knew that one already, since you didn't burn your clutches : ) )

we only replaced the case and put new pins and spider gears in it. This time we are putting a whole new differential and case on it.
