97 SE feels low on power, now coolant issue. NEW PICS
here i am with another problem... thanks to all who are helping and bearing with me. i partially addressed this with another thread, but i'm gonna tell the whole story here.
two weeks ago i replaced my pos1 O2 and reset the pcm. after letting the car sit with the battery cable unhooked for about 30 mins i fired it up and took it for a drive. i let it warm up, then used a stretch of empty road to do some strip-style launches (hold the brakes, load up the motor then let it fly). after four or five of these i took it home and parked it.
my immediate concern was the next day i got horrible mileage on the interstate. this has since returned to normal. however the problems that remain are as follows:
1. lower power when i floor it. it accelerates decently, but does not push me back in the seat like it used to.
2. sluggish shifts when accelerating aggressively. the shifts don't snap like they did a few weeks ago. it'* not having trouble shifting necessarily, but definitely slower transfers from gear to gear.
3. i get a CEL for my post-cat O2, which is a dummy sensor. this seems to trip occasionally, though the sensor is still in place. probably unrelated to the other problems, and not as important.
did i hurt my tranny practicing launches? is it related to the surging issue i've been complaining about? thanks in advance!

I'm still not sure your surging issues are your trans, but I don't have the luxury of driving your car. I doubt aggressive driving caused this. Usually that type of driving will 'firm up' the PCM. It can learn your style.
This is a hard one to determine. There'* some speculation that the rear O2 could have an effect on performance, but we're still sorting that out. Ultimately, I thin you can rule out the dummy, though, as many run them just fine.
I think you're going to have to get down to the basics. How long since a tuneup (full)? What'* your fuel pressure? Does the cat make any noise when you kick it? Rattle? Anything moving in it? Do you have access to a scantool?

i'll be able to use my buddy'* digimoto in a few weeks. which parameters should i look at in particular? i'll have to ask pontiacdad some specifics, as i understand he uses the software. my cat is fine, i've had the high flow on there for a couple months now and these problems just started occurring. i guess i was thinking my tranny may have been starting to slip, but that would be reflected in the mileage, wouldn't it?

Tranny slip will be obvious in mileage and over-revving to get in gear. Pdad knows the digimoto VERY well. He'* the pro for sure.
Another thing you may consider is gently cleaning your MAF sensor.

just had a theory about the sluggishness and lack of zip... could it be the "dog bone" (that'* what my mechanic calls it) that prevents fore/aft torquing of the engine and tranny underneath the car? i know mine was pretty worn out to begin with, and i'm thinking doing practice launches would have put a lot of strain on it. my mechanic had told me i needed a new one and it would firm up engine and shift response, so this seems like a logical possibility?

I'm the king of posting to myself! If anyone can backup or dispell my theory about the dogbone, please drop me a line. I'll probably replace it regardless. However, another possibility I've been examining is the fact that my rear O2 spoof seems to be faulty. Scott Cook at Intense thought maybe the code it'* throwing could be changing the way the car runs, so I'm sending it in to be replaced and hopefully tested. I'll also keep this updated as to what I find.

Still have to send in the O2 to INTENSE... can anyone comment on my dog bone theory? Coming up with more ideas... could it be a differential issue? I've heard it said that one-wheel burnouts are bad, and my car seems to be doing them every time I stomp on it with wet streets. Just throwing things out here. Comments are appreciated.
