Is that on the drivers side fuse panel?
Plausible.
I pulled the fuse, then started it up. I did get a 3rd gear start, but no check engine light. But that was in my driveway.

Yeah I never got a check engine light either. So I drove it around today some and as soon as it got to temp to kick in the cooling fans the car shuddered and went into limp mode. The fuse blew. Stopped changed the fuse turn the car on and it blew immediately. So I need to figure out why when the fans come on the fuse is blowing. My plan of action, I will check first after it cools off if when the A/C comes on and kick on the fan it blows the fuse. Then I will check the relays. My question is if the relay for the cooling fan is taken out should the A/C clutch still engage or will it not? Does the A/C engage the high or low fan speed?

Any other suggestions on what to look for?

Start checking the fan wires for a dead short. Unplug the fans and see if that blows the fuse, if so, the fans are good and the problem is in the wire.

That'* one of the most interesting and best finds in a while. Very informative for a wannabe wrench like me.

I had to stop-by because it was an unusual code. Plus I'm the annoying guy who shows up on an elusive '94 or '95 problem, and tells you it'* the ECM/PCM. I'm on my 3rd PCM on my '95, and I made a friend of a mechanic at the local exhaust shop. He had been fighting a CEL on his ignition circuit, and I gave him my $20 JY spare PCM, and it'* solved.

Now, I don't want to be rude or kibitz, and my wife and I love our cars... But does anybody want to discuss the relative merits of engineering that tinkertoy fan and the transmission on the same circuit? . The resistor/BCM and fan are just sitting naked on the firewall, waiting to get gunked or shorted. Of course I never knew it was set up that way till now, but it just seems funny to me.

Quite admirable diligence and persistence by all involved. And a great find, cspoonts.

I see there is more to do. But y'all have taken the impossible for a professional, and made it quite possible, by way of the community. Bravo. (Standing O!)

I was just thinking Dan, his fans have 2 fuses. If my memory serves me correctly, the big fuse in the engine bay fuses the fans themselves, either before or after the relay. I'm thinking the little 10amp fuse in the dash fuses the relay. Not the fans themselves. Thoughts?

EDIT:

And Charilie, we would be more than happy have a campfire discussion as you had mentioned. Your more than welcome to start it up in the Electrical section if you wish.

Anyone have a diagram of the cooling fan circuit? I need it to see how all the parts line up on the circuit. For instance if the temperature switch grounds the circuit and a few other things.

So fans unplugged and I turn on the a/c and the fuse blows. Any place in particular I should look for the short?
