HIGH Oil Pressure, runs fine otherwise...
Hey guys,
I drove from Minneapolis, MN to Duluth, MN, averaging about 77 mph, and my oil pressure was essentially pegged the entire time i had the cruise set. Once disengage the cruise or hit a steep downhill (engine not under load anymore) the pressure would fall back down.
Just changed my oil the other day, and I used Shell 10/w30 and a WIX filter instead of my standard parts master oil and fram filter. No real reason for change other than me stealing the oil from my old man instead of buying some
Anyway, it runs just fine, I've checked the oil level about 5 separate times since, and the oil looks perfect and there is a proper amount reading. The car was driving fine, not making any engine noise, and it was not running hot at all (200° all the way).
The pegged needle leads me to believe that it'* a sending unit, but it seems to function fine otherwise. Could it possibly be from the oil? or the filter?
Has anyone ever seen this activity before?
any advice is welcome and appreciated!

sounds like the sending unit or the cluster...these clusters can act funny at times from what I have seen in the past.
2000+ have that SAME prolbem where the sending unit goes out.
IT is NOT possible for oil or a bad filter to peg the pressure out...worst thing that would happen is lower oil pressure but not pegged out...unless you are using some really thin oil but even then it would be higher but not near the max of the gauge

alrighty, i took the advice of many, on the board and otherwise, and purchased the oil pressure sending unit today. ($20.99 from O'Reilly/ Bumper to Bumper)

Upon inspection, it doesn't look familiar, and I haven't seen it on the car. Where is the sending unit located on the engine?
