Default Engine noise

Posted on another forum but thought I might get some more help here. Ok, I'll try and be as specific as I possibly can. Its on a 98 SSE, upon initial start up (after its been sitting for atleast eight hours) the engine makes a loud noise as if a pulley has a bad bearing. Only problem is its not coming from that side, it comes from where the air intake is. It only does it for about 30 seconds and then goes away. If I turn the car off and start it back up it does not do it, only when the engine is cold. Took it to a mechanic and I was told its normal, I understand that when the engine starts its gonna make noise from sucking in the air but nothing like what I hear. I looked all over and found a tear in the intake tube, replaced that but the noise is still there. I have a cold air intake on it which only magnafies the sound but even with the stock intake on it, its still quite noticeable. I'd appreciate any suggestions, I'd rather have people look and admire then look and wonder if the car will blow up or not. Hope I was detailed enough.

Thanks,
Rob

Nothing to worry about. The more you mod, the louder it will get. Mine sounds like an industrial vacuum cleaner.

Agreed, but I didn't notice mine until I threw the intake on my car. Odd that you would notice it so much, unless your intake is not stock...

You're telling me. Now that the mornings are getting cooler, my airbox just gets louder and louder. If I hadn't heard louder things last winter, I'd be posting some HELP! threads too.
