What'* up with my fuel guage? It can read from about a half of a tank to less than a quarter and then back, or somewhere inbetween in a matter of seconds. It drives me nuts. Which is accurate? Is is most accurate at an idle, or while driving? I love my car bt this annoys the crap out of me.

Your fuel level sensor is failing. Search on "fuel level sensor". It'* a common failure point on our cars.

Well before you go the Fuel level sensor route, let your car sit at idle, because I believe thats the way the tank float is. It varies while driving since the fuel moves in the tank and the float does the same.

Does your gas gauge go up when accelerating, than down when stopping? if so, thats normal for the gauge to do that.

If while your sitting still and idling the gauge bounces, then it Might be the fuel level sensor.

Sometimes it could be the hanger(sending unit) inside the gas tank.. That'* what mine was.. My gas gauge wasn't reading at all though.. Only when it hit empty the gas guage would shoot to empty, other than that it would always read full. Once I replaced my float in the gas tank it worked perfectly. I actually replaced the whole unit. The thing the fuel pump is on.

Yeah, it just fluctuates while drivig. It seems to "settle" while driving. I have just never seen a car vary so much while driving. I mean you see more than a 1/4 tank differnece most times. I really don't like that.

The new GM senders are about $250.

Tall, you are going to want to replace that sending unit. A common scenario is rusting up in that area. Left to go too long and you can develop a fuel leak. Been there and done that. Repair it while you have the time to do it under your own terms.

So here'* my next question...Is the sending unit part of or seperate from the fuel pump? Cuz I just put a new pump on like 3 months ago and just replaced the fule lines like 2--3 weeks ago. Getting kinda sick of fixin stuff.....
