Does this thing really have eny pourpose? or does it just trap heat under there?

Probably just for looks. I have a Series 1 and the cover on mine is not as big as the Series 2. Shouldn't hold in too much heat I would think. It does look good when it'* clean though.

I took mine off on my 96' don't care for covers that cover the engine. I want to see the whole thing, but it'* just for looks and to cover wires ect.

It'* only there for looks and sound control. It'* officially called a sound shield in the parts book. I'm cutting mine up for a custom look. A lot of people have done this and it does look great.


BTW... am I the first to do a Series II cover? I'll post pics, if I can get the camera working.

I think you might be the first for Series 2, I've seen it done with Series 1 but not Series 2 if I'm not mistaken. Tell me how you did it and I will try it out if it'* not too hard, and pics would help too.

I left mine off. Everything is easier to access.

Here are the first 2 pics of this. I will post more as the project moves along. I am using a natural rubber latex to cover the lettering. It peels off easily when I'm ready to paint the chrome lettering. I'm going to be painting the V6 with chrome... it'll look more complete.

How did you get such clean cuts. What are you using to cut it out, and what are you going to put back in there?
