Eletrical Problems
Ok, I posted a post here a little while ago about my car not starting, becuase it didn't have adiquite power comming from the battery. So here's what's happend so far. Ok about a month ago my car didn't start once. So i just tighted the battery cables, and it started. The next time it wouldn't start i took of the cables, and cleaned them all really well. Ok I started haveing some more problems. The battery cables seemed to corode really fast, so i cleaned them off till they were nice and shine, got one of those fabric spacers, and some gel to try and ensure that they wouln't corrode agian. well that lasted about 2 days, and the car wouldn't start agian. I took off the calbes and inspected everything. The cables looked pretty good, but inside the battery turminal where the bolt screws in.. it was brown. So i cleaned all of it up.. and reattached agian... and it started. I've had my battery, alternator, and eletical system tested. They all are good. I think there still might be a problem with the battery, so if it keeps doing it.. i'm just gonna get another one and see if that works. If anyone has any suggestions.. let me know.

Dry off everything real well--use compressed air if available. If voltage is good after reconnected then apply your spray/gel. If no luck then, go with a new battery but clean your cables again real well first. |
Yeah... I've used baking soda, cleaner from the store, and soda. Soda seemed to get it the cleanest. I mean they were spotless. I'm thinking i just need to go and invest on a new battery. The thing that sucks is that advanced auto tells me there's nothing wrong with it. Even though it's only 3 months old. The thing is still under warranty, but they won't replace it for me yet.

Still on your original alternator?

Wow, do you breathe salt?? Lemme guess, you live near a large body of salt-water??
|
Nope. I live in upstate SC. About 5 hours...away from beach.

 I didn't think that copper corrodes that fast in somewhat normal conditions...

Anyone else have any ideas?

Does your radiator maybe have a little leak on that side, not enough for alot of fluid but enough for vapor? :?
|
Nope.. don't have any leaks there. Just replaced the water pump about 2 weeks ago, and i checked everything for leaks when i did that. Good idea though. I would have never thought of that
