Electrical Problem

Hey Everyone,

I have a problem. I have a 2001 Bonneville and for some reason I've had some problems with the electrical things in my car. Last night the following problems occuried in my car:

Interior lights don't turn on (door opens or with switch)
Back-up lights don't turn on
Door Locks don't work
Trunk won't open (by key alarm console or Glove box button)
Alarm Console won't work door locks or trunk

Does anyone have an idea what happened before I take it to a mechanic ?

it's under warranty. you take it to the dealer.

So besides taking it to the dealer..........any idea what could be the problem ? Car runs fine, headlights work, radio works. But I will definitely take it back to the dealer.

You've probably got a loose connector through the firewall for all those things to be out, but other related things working. Try poking around above the footwell on the drivers side, and on the ouside of the firewall.....after the car cools down......then take it to the dealer. You won't be able to check the firewall passthrus on the passenger side because of the climate control ducting, but you might be able to access them from the engine bay side.

Just a thought, did you check all your fuses to make sure nothing is blown.

Known failures include the BCM (Body Control Module). This little unit controls EVERYTHING on your car. If this unit is faulty then some very strange things start to happen like this. I would get it to a dealer quick & get it checked out before it gets worse.

I agree with Deathrat, The body control module is in charge of operation ALL that stuff, and when they go... some really wierd things start happining and not working. Usually stuff related to the "body" of the car, such as locks, lights, alarm, etc... which it sounds like are all the areas your having problems with. If its not a bunch of blown fuses "for some wierd reason", then I would be willing to bet as well that its your BCM. Hopefully the dealer can trace it down with a Tech-II and hook you up with a new one under warranty.

I took it in and they told me I had an open circuit. I don't know what they were talking about but the problem seems to be fixed. I am gonna keep an eye out for it returning.
