elc trouble shooting help
I've been wanting to check out my elc system in my car for a week or 2 now but haven't had the chance untill now. Which fuses & relays would be for my elc? Any other tips on where to check for what could be causeing this system not to work would be greatly welcomed.

For starters, does your inflator work?
I don't have the schematic for your year, but there is a primary ELC relay and 2 fuses for the system. Start with the inflator, so whoever helps you with it knows what can and can't be ruled out. Then we'll tell you where to check for power. |
The inflator does not work but I do hear the click of the valve behind the right rear passanger's seat.
I also was just crawling around under the car and saw this line coming off the compressor....... And how it is broken right after the T; not quite sure where the other end of that was going to... https://tinypic.com/m830w2.jpg |
that line is just a breather line I believe, not critical for compressor operation. The actual air line is very thin. Put 12v to the compressor and see if it spins.

There are 4 wires going to the compressor.... Red-Green-White-Black Is one of those a turn on lead of some sort that gets 12v like a remote turn on wire on a amp? I have a old computer power supply sitting under the car right now ready for 12v but I don't want to hook up the wrong way and burn something out. (I also could just put a fuse in line but if you/ anyone else knows it would help alot)

If I remember those 4 are 2 bigger gauge and 2 smaller gauge. the 2 bigger go to the motor. |
hmm. ok back outside to try that..... Thanks
I'll be back in a few ;) [edit] Well I ended up taking the compressor off the car so I can try to test it in side the house which is much warmer. But when I tried to get it going underneath the car no luck. |
Well after I pulled the compressor from my car & found out what leads power it. Then tried to power it up to no luck. I hooked my multi meter into the connector which powers it on the car.
https://tinypic.com/m8eog8.jpg This is the voltage with the compressor off. https://tinypic.com/m8eotf.jpg And when I hit the buttton for the air inflator. https://tinypic.com/m8ep04.jpg So I guess my compressor is done for...... |
You could try to pull the top off the cylinder and see if you can lightly oil it...maybe free it up.

On mine, it was the motor that was gone, but I just replaced the whole elc assembly. |
