The bottom pic.... and the end that is broken is the one that loops back up to the upper portion of the compressor. What does that do?

it is just a breather line, it goes into the frame and there is supposed to be a little filter in the end the goes into the frame. what this is for is to make sure the assembly isn't sucking water when it gets wet.

Hello all, I just joined the group. This particular message caught my attention as I have the very same problem with my ELC. I have the compressor off my car and would now like to bench test it to make sure it is really the problem. My part number = 22152835. I have learned that the replacement is 22153324.

My car: 1997 LaSabre

Could some explain the circuit to me? That is, there are four wires going to the compressor in the wiring harness, in this order:

black = ground
white = ?
black with small green stripe = power, I think
white = ?

Note: I don't have a yellow wire.

What do the two white wires do? Are they from a sensor which detects the level of the car? How can I test the compressor on my bench? I've got a spare 12V battery, but I need to understand how to connect it up.

Thanks in advanced for any help.
