Default I need gas gauge help .. '92 SSEI

The gas gauge on my ssei is stupid. It reads full, then mostly full until I have maybe six gallons left, then it zips down to 1/2, then not too long after that it is down lower and putting on the little gas pump light.

I can't depend on it. It changes depending on the phase of the moon. I go by mileage.

Does anyone else have this particular problem?

Help !!!!

My '96 does exactly this same thing. I've been trusting the Low Fuel light to tell me when to get gas, but the other day I ran out... I'd like some help on how to fix too.

Well gee I was hoping you were going to tell me how to fix it heheh

I just set the trip meter, and make sure I gas up after 250 miles. That works well for me.

I am sure someone will tell us to replace the sender unit in the tank, but that looks like a real pain in the ***. The exhaust may be in the way. And it is all welded, of course.

I haven't heard of a solution for that. On mine 1/2 tank on the gauge usually means around 1/4 tank.

my riv is even worse.. once you get down to 1/4 of a tank, the gas gauge will go back to reading 'full.' :( It reads fine the rest of the time.. until it gets down to a 1/4 of a tank.

If these cars are like the old GM'*, there is a sending unit in the gas tank that floats up or down depending on how much gas there is. It appears that your sending units might be bad.

While in there, you might as well replace the fuel pump...
