Default Shift Kit.

Is there a good reputable one out there for my car, and is it easy to do your self or wold you recommend a trans builder to do the labor. Just for the record, I do have some knowledge of these trannys.

Thanks.

What brand did they use, and what was the average cost for it? I'd like to know a ball park figure for install costs, but Willwren and Matt both had there'* installed while rebuilding the trans.

My shift kit install required drilling, tapping, and milling. Very involved, and for all options, my trans builder spent two days on the bench and mill working on it. My shift kit is listed in my Trans rebuild topic.

Shift kits are for professional installers. At least on the 4T60. I'm a pretty good wrench and machinist. And you've heard it before. I'll leave trans work to the pros.

if u do decide to go after a shift kit, my recomondation is to have the entire tranny rebuilt so it will take the extra umph!
But what can i tell u, the shift kit was the best money spent.

my trans in all actuality only has 27K on it, do you still advise a total rebuild?

The shift kit for the 4t^0 series transmission is made by TransGo. However, you should consider also doing all the additional upgardes and changes with the various kits from Sonnax. These upgrade from Sonnax require machining, drilling and reaming for the various components. if you do a search under Sonnax, you will see the complete list and part numbers of all the items available from Sonnax.

Most trans shops (mine included) do all the updates as well by default. They also do the shift kit by default, but not with all options, as most drivers don't want every damn gear including OD lockup to POP each time.

I had everything done, no exceptions (updates and shift kit options).

With 27k on the trans, you'd probably be fine, but that'* still work that should be done by an experienced shift kit installer.
