EGR in a 92? (split from another topic by admin)

hey jeffrey10x2, it says you have a 92 ssei but you claim to have blown an EGR valve... 92s didnt have an EGR unless they added it at the very end of the year... What gives?

The 92 Supercharged models have a digital EGR. Only the NA didn't get one.

what happened was that at about 900' down the track, the egr valve stuck open and dumped the boost. like a huge vac leak. it sounded like a jake brake going off on a big rig.
so i made an alum plate and installed it under the egr to block it off. at times it does set a code 54 ( no flow from the egr) but i can live with that

Ahhhh i'd never heard that before...

So if the EGR is working it's helping the engine make more power? I know it reduces cyl temp, but does it retard the timing or anything?

Some 92 NA's do have EGR's. My family has two examples.

I heard they started putting them in towards the end of the year.

It depended on the month of production & where the car was manufactured too! Some early 92's even got EGR's due to the actual locale of the plant. :?
