Default Torque Converter Question

My Grand Marquis was able to hold itself on a heck of an incline. I would have to be at a really steep angle to get it to roll back while in drive.

My bonneville, if there is any incline at all whatsoever, the car won't move, and if the incline is noticeable, it will actually begin rolling backwards. Guy at the transmission shop thinks there'* a bad torque converter clutch... it locks at 30MPH+. Now that doesn't sound right. And sometimes it locks really rough.

I don't know, I'm utterly confused. I rolled backwards down my driveway the other day just to see if it would do it. It'* not an insane incline, but enough to **** you off when it snows out (in the Grand Marquis anyway, duno how the Bonneville is). It started rolling backwards, then curious as to whether it was slipping or not, I mashed on the gas. The thing that told me it wasn't slipping was the 10ft tire marks left behind just from mashing on the gas lol.

I went to an appropriate place yesterday just for kicks and giggles to see if I engaged the e-brake if I could get the tires rolling. I typically don't abuse my vehicles, so I never got the chance to try it before the new transmission. I tried spinning the tires up by just by hitting the gas and it wouldn't do nuttin. It just sat about about three and a half grand. I allowed the car to roll backwards first while in drive, then mashed throttle and threw on ebrake and it did start spinning, but barely and nothing impressive. It sat again around three and a half grand but tires were slightly spinning, not enough to make any smoke after about four seconds.

I know my grand marquis could put on quite the show, and I don't expect this car to be amazing, but shouldn't an N/A Bonneville be able to get the tires spinning easier than that? My girlfriend'* 95 intrepid is insane... and it'* only got the 3.3.

Like I said, not that I abuse my cars, but with as much power as I feel driving this car around day to day, I feel I could put on a smoke show pretty well. Ofcourse it'* easy to do in the rain, but it just doesn't seem to want to do it on dry pavement. Me thinks the torque converter is shot and I'm gonna have to do some yelling at the warranty company who replaced the trans/tc. Don't worry, I won't be mentioning anything about the tire spinning capabilities to get the replacement TC lol.

The first thing to that comes to my mind is gearing. That Grand Marquis has different gearing. The 98 Merc I’m driving as a backup vehicle has 3.27:1 ratio while my Bonne has 2.93:1 I think. You may be in need of some new fluid and filter in your transmission. Never trust ONE shops word stop by a few and see what other shops say. You may have what we call granny gearing which is great for fuel economy but comes up lacking for performance; hence why you had a hard time spinning those tires.
