Default What is normal operating temp on 96 K?

Hey Guys,
Please help.
I want to do the 180 T-stat thing on my 96 but the protocol for the PCM to "re-learn"
any mod you make is this:
1) Engine must be at operating temp and Idling for ECM to re-learn. or
2) Engine must be at operating temp and driven moderately to re-learn.
My question is:
Does anyone know what the programmed "operating temp" the PCM looks
for on a 96?
I don't want to bypass this feature and thus effect future performance.
If a 180 stat is standard on a 99 could they have re-programmed the
PCM to this temp before making this mod at the factory?

Changing the thermostat won't actually change the temp the engine gets to, it just opens the thermostst earlier, making the temp top out slower.

And, to answer your actual question, mine (98, but same engine) generally varies from just a tad above to just a tad below the first mark on the gage. I hope I didn't get too technical on that for ya

Stock on the 99s is 195. My 99 has the original 195 in it.

The thermostat does set the minimum operating temperature for the vehicle. I just changed from the 195 to the 180 and I am now running about 15-20 degrees cooler.

That was a vicious rumor circulating at the time. We had a member that swore his came new with a 180 from the factory. Ignore that one.

I was wondering about this myself, I bought one a couple of days ago. Is it safe to use with the Dexicool 2 or that orange stuff in my 92? I'm going to do this toward the end of the week, I assume it will work out alright. Also, our these t-stats to be used all year round or just for spring, summer, and fall?

and one last question, what should the Temp be at when I install the new T-stat? mines now usaully stays in the middle.
