hello, I have a 95 Bonneville ...it has 120,000 miles on her...and I've noticed here lately she smokes a little when I'm stopped at a red light...not bad but noticable... Is there any additive I can add to stop it from smoking??? thanx

we need to know what trim level (SE,SSE,SSEi) your car is....and what engine it has in it (supercharged or non-supercharged) to better help you.

What color and odor to the smoke? Bluish - sharp oily smell = oil getting past worn rings or valve guides. If so, no imminent problem but repairs down the road. White - sweet smell like antifreeze = coolant leaking into combustion chambers. Don't operate car this way under risk of destroying engine. Coolant can mix with oil and ruin the oil'* ability to protect the engines parts resulting in a catastrophic and expensive engine failure. If your car is not supercharged, the most likely cause of coolant leak is a bad upper intake manifold or lower manifold gaskets. In decreasing order of likelihood: leaking head gasket, cracked head or engine block.

Is Coolant level falling? Is heater working OK? These would indicate possible internal gasket failures and loss of coolant out the exhaust.

Maybe it is something cheap and simple that I haven't thought of?

I smell doom. Upper intake failure, white smoke, sweet smelling exhaust. If that'* true, drain the oil immediately.

White smoke can also be an excessivly rich fuel condition. Ruptured FPR diaphram or very leaky injectors. Either one would most likely cause a hard hot start condition.

Maybe the oil is overfilled? Perhaps foaming?

Has it been uncommonly cold in FL lately? I ask because up here when the temp is below 40 the cars smoke and its normal, it is just the condensation in the exhaust becommong visable in the cold. Just a thought.
